WE ARE DOWN THE HATCH
It all started in December 2015 with an idea to create a diner with a difference! With 15 years of hospitality experience running restaurants and bars in Edinburgh, I thought it was time to have a go on my own! My wife Lesley had been running the cafe under another name and we saw an opportunity to improve the current offering. Myself, being from Canada, was desperately looking for something in the South Queensferry area that provided something totally different and satisfied my North American tastebuds! Albeit we have many nice eateries in the area, there was nothing that really pushed the boat in terms of flavour and experimentation. Down the Hatch was born! North American influenced food, with quality locally sourced ingredients!
Had possibly the best cooked breakfast I’ve ever eaten. The Breakfast skillets were perfect.

Canada's unofficial National dish! Originating in Quebec, the French part of Canada, it consists of hand cut chips, cheese curd( what goes into making cheddar...some call it young cheddar), and a rich brown gravy. As we're Canadian owned..we are super proud to serve Poutine to the people of Scotland! We sometimes like to mix it up into our specials with crazy toppings! We are also the unofficial home of Haggis Poutine...a perfect marriage of Canada and Scotland!
Never disaPpointed here! Food is fantastic and freshly made. Quick & cheerful service. Had the fish tacos which were awesome. Special was dirty fries with black pudding & chorizo. Milkshakes also on point!

I had a Reuben, which was one of the best I've had in Scotland.
I don’t tend to have feelings about food. I enjoy it but rarely do I think “oh my word” as I taste something. I did here. That Philly Cheesesteak was absolutely delicious. The onions didn’t overpower it like I expected. I wolfed the lot. And the fries. It was roasting hot

ONE DAY...AFTER WE FIRST OPENED...WE DECIDED TO RUN A SPECIAL. THE SPECIAL PROVED TO BE POPULAR! SO...WE DID IT AGAIN THE NEXT DAY. IT BECAME A BIT OF A CONTEST AND PERSONAL GOAL TO SEE IF WE COULD BETTER YESTERDAY'S SPECIAL. WE PUSHED OUR CULINARY BOUNDARIES TO SEE WHAT WE COULD COME UP WITH NEXT. IN NOT SO MANY WAYS IT HAS BECOME OUR IDENTITY. EVERY DAY WE POST ...THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE SEE THAT SPECIAL THROUGH OUR SOCIAL MEDIA CHANNELS. PEOPLE LIKE, COMMENT, CRITIQUE AND SHARE ...WHICH IS A FABULOUS THING! WE'VE DONE SOME WILD THINGS IN THE PAST 3 YEARS! WE WILL ALWAYS BE ABOUT NEW AND EXCITING SPECIALS...IT'S WHAT WE ARE..

we presently do not have toilets within our premesis, however public marina facilities are a short walk away :)
